Cancer Research Relay For Life held at Stoneleigh Park

9 April 2008

The Relay For Life is an annual overnight event that takes place in communities across the world. It will be held at Stoneleigh Park on the 16 and 17 August 2008.

It is an event organised by volunteers and looks to unite people together to celebrate the lives of those surviving cancer and to remember loved ones who have died from the disease.

Local teams of friends, family, neighbours and colleagues fundraise within their local communities throughout the year, raising all they can for the life-saving work of Cancer Research UK. Then get together for a great overnight event of celebration and commemoration that everyone in the community can join in. The teams, their supporters and visitors from the local community create a carnival atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Guests of Honour, who are cancer survivors of all ages are welcomed to the event and start the relay by walking the first lap in way of celebration of their achievements.

One of the most memorable moments of the event will be the Candle of Hope Ceremony. As dusk falls, candles that have been dedicated to loved ones are lit and burn into the night.

So come and take part in the Relay For Life, the inspirational community-led event that celebrates those who survive cancer and pays tribute to those who are touched by it. Some survivors simply attend the opening ceremony, others decide to join in the Relay and take the opportunity to meet people and make new friends.
