NEW, RISING BRITISH STUNT STARS TO PERFORM AT MIDLANDS BIG BIKE SHOW

April 22, 2005

There’s a chance to experience the thrills and spills of a great, new British stunt team at The Midlands Big Bike Show at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry on 7 – 8 May.

There are rumours that Vertical Brits Street Xtreme could well be at the top of the game within the next year or so, eclipsing some of the current masters with their loud, edgy, American-influenced act.

Graham Aitken and Ash Newbold have been perfecting their routines seriously over the past two years. The team’s roots are in urban biking and they ride standard, unmodified Honda Fireblades – apart from some distinctive, funky, fun-fur cladding on the panels.

The street influence can be seen in both the act and what they wear. Minimal protective clothing – just a leather jacket, gloves and a helmet – helps with manoeuvrability. Graham explains: “We don’t want to give an overly polished performance. We want to add excitement. We want the audience to think ‘I’m just like them; they’re one of the lads but wow! Can they ride some!’”

The Vertical Brits’ stunts are ever-changing. There are new ones for every show and anyone who knows the USA’s street-scene kings, the Starboyz, will appreciate the similarities of style.

Thousands of bike enthusiasts from across the East and West Midlands will be visiting the Midlands’ Big Bike Show – it’s the first, dedicated show of the season in the region with displays of touring, performance and custom bikes. Show highlights include the second round of the Carole Nash HEAD2HEAD trials competition, pitting two of the best, up-and-coming young stunt riders against the age and experience of two major stars. There will also be a chance to meet some of the biggest names in local speedway.

Tickets bought in advance are £8.50 for adults, £4.50 for children and senior citizens. On the day, entry will be £10 for adults and £6 for children and senior citizens. The ticket hotline is 0870 904 2003. The show is open 10am – 5pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8th May. Visit www.bikeshowseurope.com for a full update.
